ONE SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE FOR MONGOLIAN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT -- .The Zorig Foundation USA is accepting applications from 11th and 12th grade Mongolian high school students currently residing in the US with a current and valid visa for a full scholarship to represent Mongolia at the "Future World Leaders Summit" sponsored by the Presidential Classroom Foundation in Washington, DC, July 5-12, 2003. Only one person will be selected. The deadline for applications is 5:00 PM, Friday, May 30, 2003. The scholarship includes round-trip air travel from the US city of origin to Washington, DC, all transportation to and from the airport in Washington plus all fees, meals and lodging to take part in the 7-day Future World Leaders Summit plus a home stay with an American family in the Washington area preceding the Summit, July 1-4. On Independence Day, these international Presidential Classroom Scholars take part in a private gathering at Fort Leslie McNair on the banks of the Potomac River, featuring a spectacular view of the annual fireworks show on The Mall. The student selected will be in Washington from July 1-12.The Presidential Classroom Program introduces participants to the inner workings of the US federal government, examines how current issues affect public policy and gives students direct access to national leaders. It takes students behind the scenes in Washington for seminars and discussions featuring members of Congress, Presidential appointees, journalists and other Washington insiders and names in the news. Eligibility -- Candidates must:-- Be Mongolian citizens living in the US with a valid US visa, enrolled full-time in any American high school in the 11th grade (junior year) or 12th grade (senior year); rising juniors and graduating seniors are eligible-- Have a "B" average or higher OR rank in the top 40 percent of their class..
-- Show commitment to community or school involvement through participation in extra- or co-curricular activities, such as sports, school clubs, etc.
The application requires:-- a letter of not more than two pages in English from the applicant explaining why he or she is interested in the Presidential Classroom "Future World Leaders Summit," including a statement of their community or school activities outside of classroom work and full contact information (name, mailing address including zip code, telephone number, email address, name of parent of US guardian) -- a copy of a transcript of grades from his/her high school-- a copy of the identification page of their Mongolian passport and a copy of their US visa-- a letter from the applicant's parent or guardian in the US stating that the student has permission to apply and if selected, to attend the Future World Leaders Summit; and-- one letter of recommendation from a teacher, school official or community leader attesting to the applicant's character
